Anyone who really knows me knows how much I love track and field. So to satisfy my need for speed, tonight I eschewed the high school hardwood and went to the 1st day of competition at the Commodore Invitational Indoor Track Meet held at Vandy’s spectacular indoor track facility.
The meet features five teams from the SEC — Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee and host Vanderbilt, teams from the Big 10 and ACC, as well as local teams Belmont, Lipscomb, TSU, and Trevecca. Scheduled to participate are: Alabama (men and women), Alabama A&M (M/W), Auburn (M/W), Belmont (M/W), Georgia Tech (M/W), Lipscomb (M/W), Michigan (M), MTSU (M/W), Miss. State (M/W), Murray State (W), South Alabama (M/W), Tennessee (M/W), Tennessee St. (M/W), Tennessee Tech (W), Trevecca Nazarene (M/W), Vanderbilt (M/W) and Western Kentucky (M/W). The field will also include several club teams: Atlanta Track Club (M), Bell Athletics (M), Music City Mavericks (M), Nashville Running Company (M) and Thinking Feet Track Club (M/W).
Day 1 was for field events and a few running events. I took in the 200 meters and the 4 x 800 relays. I’ll be going back tomorrow for more with the 60 meter dah, the 60 meter hurdles , the 400, 800, and 4×400 still to come.
