The Vanderbilt Commodores took down the Florida Gators Tuesday night in an SEC clash at Memorial Gymnasium. Vandy took advantage of a very poor-shooting Gator team as they opened up a 30-19 lead at the half. Florida shot only 21.2% from the field including going 0 for 10 on 3-pointers in the half. Early on the Gators had no answer for Commodore big man Damian Jones as he scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half. Jones added 12 rebounds as well in the game for the double-double.
The Gators shot better in the 2nd half, making some timely 3’s this time to keep the game close, but in the 2nd half it was Wade Baldwin IV taking over, scoring 16 of his game high 24 points in the 2nd frame including some clutch free throws at the end. Florida had trimmed the once safe 9 point lead Vandy had with 3:50 remaining down to 2 with :08 secs remaining at 58-56 when Baldwin knocked down two free throws to seal the deal.
Vanderbilt improved to 4-4 in SEC play while Florida dropped to 5-3 in the conference.
