The UT Vols drew the first game of the 2016 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, and they wasted no time getting started. The #12 seeded Vols opened the game against the #13 seeded Auburn Tigers on a 10-0 run, and they never looked back. The Vols, losers of their last four regular season games and playing without leading scorer Kevin Punter (injury), looked like the team that had beaten Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, and LSU earlier in the season. Led by Armani
Moore with 22 points and Detrick Mostella with 17 points, UT shot a blistering 58.6% from the floor, connecting on 11 of 25 3-pointers. The Vols held Auburn to 30% shooting from the floor.
The Vols opened up the game on the 10-0 run, then led 20-7, 30-13, and 44-25 at the half. The 2nd half was more of the same with the Vols just crushing the Tigers. The lead grew to as much as 39 points when a free throw by Devon Baulkman with 7:10 remaining in the game put UT up 85-46. Baulkman finished with 16 points and Admiral Schofield chipped in 12 for the Vols.
Auburn was led by T.J. Dunans with 17 points.
UT will face #5 Vanderbilt tomorrow in the 2nd round at approx. 2:30 PM.
Vanderbilt beat UT twice in the regular season this year, the first at UT by the score of 88-74 and then 86-69 at home.
