The East Nashville Lady Eagles made the most out of their first trip to the state tournament. The Lady Eagles, led by head coach Lois Donaldson,  started off strong and finished even stronger in their 70-56 win over Upperman in the TSSAA DI-AA Girls State Basketball Championship game at Murphy center on the campus of MTSU Saturday night. The Lady Eagles were the quicker, stronger, scrappier, tougher, and hungrier team all night. The Lady Eagles were able to penetrate the Upperman defense time after time for lay-ups and/or trips to the foul line. The Lady Eagles shot an even 50% (23 of 46) from the field and 79% (23 of 29) from the charity stripe. East out- rebounded the taller Upperman team 31-23.

East was led by tournament MVP Kaia Upton with 20 points, while Quentarra Mitchel scored 15, Le’Jzae Davidson added 12, Erica Haynes-Overton knocked in 14, Kyra Trice chipped in 7 , and Dwaynesha Woodland chipped in 2 points for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles finished the season with an incredible record of 32-2. The championship was their 27th straight win.

Miss Basketball finalist Akira Levy led Upperman with 19 points.
