Day 1 of the TSSAA State Volleyball Tournaments was full of drama and intensity as per usual for state tournaments. In Class A Goodpasture took two big steps towards their goal of five Championships in a row. In their first match of the day they knocked off Summertown 3-0 ,then handled South Greene equally as well, also winning 3-0. They will play next at 1:00 at MTSU

In Class A Goodpasture took two big steps towards their goal of five Championships in a row. In their first match of the day they knocked off Summertown 3-0 ,then handled South Greene equally as well, also winning 3-0. They will play next at 1:00 at MTSU.

In Class AA Hume Fogg won their first match of the day 3-0 over Jackson South Side, then lost to Sullivan South 3-0. They will face Page High School Thursday at 10:00 AM at Siegel High School. Page lost their first match 3-0 to Knoxville Catholic, but then rebounded to defeat Red Bank 3-1 to survive.

In AAA Brentwood was the dominant team winning easily 3-0 over Bartlett and Also 3-0 over Farragut. They will play at 1:00 at MTSU. Siegel won their first match 3-0 over Cleveland, but then they fell 3-1 to Hardin Valley. Siegel plays next at 11:30 AM against Houston. Ravenwood was eliminated from the tournament, falling 3-0 to Hardin Valley, losing 3-1 to Cleveland.

Volleyball , in my opinion, is the high school sport that is the most influenced by momentum and emotion. That was in full effect at MTSU for the Division II-AA matches as the Harpeth Hall Bears used those forces to survive the first day of Division II-AA play losing in 5 sets to Briarcrest, then winning in a nail-biter, again in 5 sets over Father Ryan. Ryan had earlier lost to Baylor 3-0. Harpeth Hall will play again Thursday at 2:30 at Blackman High School vs the loser of Briarcrest/Baylor. Then if they should win , Harpeth Hall would play for the championship on Friday.
