The Nashville City Civitan Club handed out their annual Water Nipper/A.D. Hancock Sportsmanship Awards for basketball today following a luncheon at Swett’s Restaurant. The awards are given to the athlete from a Davidson County school that won either a district, region or state title. The awards, chosen by the player’s coach, go to the student-athlete that best represents the qualities of sportsmanship from their team. The awards are named after longtime Nashville City Civitan Club members Walter Nipper and A.D. Hancock. Also named today were coaches of the year.
The following students were recognized today:
Bryce Woods, Cane Ridge High School; Ann Florence Brown, CPA; Monte Catlett, East Nashville High School; Caroline Cowles, Ensworth High School; JaMeisha Jackson, Goodpasture High School; Dorie Harrison, Hillsboro High School; Taiwan Hamilton, LEAD Academy; Bo Hodges, Maplewood High School; Shawnta Shaw, Pearl-Cohn High School.
Coaches of the Year – Girls Division I – Kandra Bailey, Pearl-Cohn High School; Division II – Mary Taylor Cowles, Ensworth High School; Boys Division I – Ty Wilson, Maplewood High School
