The TSSAA Spring Fling got started Monday in Murfreesboro with the girls’ pentathlon and the boys’ decathlon. The girls competed in the 100 hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, and 800-meter run
In Division II – Ensworth’s Tyra Gittens won her 4th consecutive pentathlon title with a TSSAA state record 4135 points. With the win, she also secured her record 13th individual state championship. Gittens, a Texas A&M commitment, can add to her record on Thursday when she goes for four more titles in the 100 hurdles, high jump, long jump, and 200-meter dash.
Finishing 2nd was Brentwood Academy’s Morgan Louderback, Harpeth Hall’s Kelsey Kay Herring used a strong 800 to capture 3rd, and BA’s Alayna Holbert finished 4th. Ensworth’s Jenna Rolfe joined Gittens on the podium, finishing in 6th place, and BA’s freshman Whitney Powell had a big 800 meter win to get on the stand with an 8th place finish.
The A-AA pentathlon saw East Nashville’s Kennedi Johnson finish 3rd and Jalena Curbeam 9th, MLK’s Denia Hill-Tate won the high jump to secure a 3rd place finish.
Overton High School’s Kelsea Buchanan had a solid day and finished 3rd in the AAA class. Taylor Picket got 2nd place and Centennial’s Lynna Taylor got 8th.
The boys competed in 10 events on Monday and Tuesday.
CPA’s Ryan Charles took 1st place in the A-AA Class while Hume Fogg’s Joachim Kennedy took 2nd and East Nashville’s Job Blacksmith finished 10th.
In AAA Brentwood High had Jett Kinder in 2nd, Kyle Costner in 3rd, and Garrett Lee in 11th.
In DII, Ensworth’s Jude Maloy finished 4th, while BA had Thomas Ozburn in 5th, Shane Farrow in 6th, and Knox Perry in 11th.
