Areas College Sports Weekend Wrap

It was a great weekend for area college sports with football, golf, and cross country getting started to go along with soccer and volleyball.

Here is how area teams fared:


Women’s Soccer lost 2 games, falling 3-0 to UT and 1-0 at Valparaiso to go 3-2 on the year.

Men’s Soccer had a 0-0 tie with Dayton to go 1-0-2 on the season.

The Men’s Cross Country team won the Belmont Opener with Matt Edwards finishing 1st as well.

The Women’s Cross Country team finished 3rd in the Opener.

The Belmont Volleyball team went 2-1 in the Bruiser Showcase winning 3-2 over UTA, losing 3-2 to Idaho State and beating MTSU 3-1. They are now 5-2 on the season.

The Women’s Golf team began play with a win (4.5-2.5) over Sewanee.


Both the Men and Women’s Cross Country teams took 2nd place at the Belmont Opener.

The Men’s Soccer team won 2-1 over SIU-Edwardsville to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Women’s Soccer team lost to Georgia 3-0 and tied UT-Martin 1-1 to go to 1-3-2 for the season.

The Lipscomb Volleyball team improved to 4-2 on the season picking up wins over Oakland (3-2) and Missouri St. (3-2) before falling to Ohio State (3-0) at the D.C. Koehl Classic.

TSU  The TSU Tigers Football team picked up a huge win 17-10 over Georgia State to begin the season 1-0.

The Tigers Volleyball team swept through the Tiger Invitational beating Alcorn State (3-0), New Orleans (3-2) , and Florida International (3-1).

The women and men’s cross country teams saw their first action of the year at the Golden Eagle Invitational in Cookeville, Tn finishing 5th and 6th, respectively.


The Commodore Football team beat MTSU 28-6 in their season opener to begin the year 1-0.

The Women’s soccer team dropped two games at the Music City Invitational, 1-0 to Indiana and 1-0 to Rhode Island, to go to 4-4 on the season.

The Women’s Cross country team took top honors in the Belmont Opener, while the men finished 3rd.

The Vandy Men’s golf team took 4th place at the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach with Patrick Martin tied for 4th individually.
