Area College Sports Week in Review and Week Ahead

Belmont –

The Men’s Golf team finished 10th of 13 at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Next is the Hummingbird Intercollegiate at Cashiers, NC on October 2nd and 3rd.

The Men’s Soccer team (3-2-2, 1-2-2) lost 4-0 at Detroit Mercy. Next up is a match at Cleveland State Saturday, Sept 30th at 6:00.

The Women’s Soccer team (6-3-1, 2-1) defeated Austin Peay 3-2 and shutout Eastern Illinois 2-0. Next the Bruins host Tn Tech on Friday, Sept 29th at Rose Park at 6:30 pm.

The Volleyball team (7-6,2-0) swept Morehead State 3-0 and won a five-set thriller over Eastern KY 3-2. Next, the Bruins will host TSU at the Curb Center Tuesday, the 26th at 6:00 pm, and then they are at SIU Edwardsville Saturday, the 30th at 2:00 pm.

The Men’s tennis team will next see action at the Coach Dick LaLance Showdown In Murfreesboro on the 29th and 30th.

The Women’s tennis team will be going to Evansville, IN on Sept. 29th and 30th for the Evansville Fall Invitational.

Both Men and Women’s Cross-Country teams will be running in the Louisville Classic Saturday in Louisville, KY.

Lipscomb –

The Men’s Golf team finished 5th of 13 teams at the Maui Jim Invitational at the Desert Forest Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dawson Armstrong finished 2nd overall. Next up for the golfers will be the Bayou City Collegiate in Houston, Tx. on October 9th and 1oth.

The Men’s Soccer team (5-3,1-0) fell 3-0 at UC Irvine, but they defeated USC Upstate 4-0 to begin conference play. The men will next be at Stetson on Sept. 27th at 6:00, then they return home to face NJIT Saturday, the 30th at 7:00 pm.

The Men’s Tennis played in the Dale Short Shootout in Murfreesboro, losing 6-1 to MTSU, beating Austin Peay 4-3, and falling to UAB 6-1. Next up will be the Commodore Scramble at Vanderbilt Sept. 29th-Oct. 1st.

The Women’s Golf team will be at the Boston College Intercollegiate Sept. 24-25th.

The Women’s Soccer team (4-5-2, 1-0-0) won 3-0 over NJIT. The Ladies hit Florida for two games this week. First up is FGCU Friday at 6:00, then Stetson on Oct. 1st at 12:00 noon.

The women’s tennis team will be participating in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Ca. Sept 30th-Oct. 4th.

The Volleyball Team (6-7,0-1) opened conference play with a 3-2 loss at Kennesaw State. The Bison have two home games coming up – the first vs Stetson Friday at 6:30, then FGCU Saturday at 5:00.

Both Men and Women’s Cross-Country Teams will be running in the Louisville Classic on Saturday.

TSU –

The TSU men ran 7th of 8 and the women 7th of 8 at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival. Next up for both is the Louisville Classic on Saturday the 30th,

The Men’s golf team came in 13th at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Next is the Skyhawk Fall Classic Oct. 2-3 hosted by UT Martin.

The TSU Tigers football team (3-1,0-1) dropped their first contest of the year, falling 31-16 to UT Martin in the OVC Conference opener. Next up is the John Merritt Classic at Nissan Stadium where the Tigers will host Eastern Illinois at 6:00 pm.

The TSU softball team (3-1) picked up two wins in Fallball over Vol State. (2-1 and 5-3). Next up will be a double-header vs. Cumberland at Tiger Field on Thursday, the 28th. First pitch at 5:30 pm.

The Tiger Volleyball team (5-10, 1-1), lost 3-1 to Eastern Ky and beat Morehead State 3-1. Next up the Tigers go to Belmont on Tuesday night then travel to Eastern Illinois for a 2:00 game on Saturday, the 30th.

Trevecca –

The men’s cross-country team ran 13th of 16 and the women ran 6th of 17 at the Trevecca D2 Showcase. Next up the two teams will both run in the Lewis Crossover Invite in Romeoville, Il, on Oct. 7th.

The Men’s Golf team finished 3rd of 11 teams at the G-MAC Fall Invite in Findlay, Oh. paced by the 3rd place scoring of Blain Turner.The women finished 2nd of 9 teams with Rachael McMahan finishing 2nd. Next up for the two teams will be the UIS Fall Preview Sept 30th-Oct.1 in Springfield, Il.

The Men’s Soccer team (3-3-2,3-2-1) lost 3-1 to Walsh University and beat Malone University 4-3. The Women’s Soccer team (4-1-2, 2-1-2) lost 3-2 to Walsh and beat Malone 5-0. Next, both the men and women’s teams will be in action Sept 28th at Ohio Valley University (women at 12:00, men at 2:30) and at Cedarville University on Sept. 30th (women at 2:00, men at 4:30).

The Trevecca Volleyball team (3-11, 0-5) fell 3-0 to University of Findlay and also 3-0 to Hillsdale College. Up next will the Trojans will be at Cedarville University Friday, the 29th at 6:00, and Saturday at noon they will be at Ohio Dominican.

Vanderbilt –

The Vandy Women’s Soccer team (7-2-1, 2-0-1) had a 0-0 tie with Arkansas and defeated Georgia 2-1. The Lady Commodores will face Missouri next at home, Friday, the 29th at 6:00.

The Football team (3-1,0-1) fell to Alabama 59-0. The Commodores travel to Gainesville, Fl. next to face the Gators Saturday at 11:00.

Both the men and women’s cross-country teams will be running Saturday in the Louisville Classic. The Men’s tennis team will be hosting the Commodore Scramble Sept. 29th -Oct. 1st.
