The Lady Burros of Hillsboro High School won the District 11-AA Volleyball Tourney 3-2 (17-25,25-18,21-25,25-15,15-13) over Dickson County to move on to next week’s Region 6 Tournament. They will face the runner-up of the District 12-AAA Tourney that begins Wednesday at Centennial High School. Dickson County will advance as well, but they will draw the winner of the always-tough Williamson County district.

Dickson County and Hillsboro split their matches in the regular season, but Dickson County garnered the top seed in the tourney through a series of tie-breakers. This meant that Dickson Co. would play the #6 seeded Glencliff squad, but Glencliff dropped out of the tourney, so Dickson Co. got a double-bye and advanced straight to the finals. Hillsboro would have a tougher road to the finals.

The Lady Burros began play against Antioch while Overton played Cane Ridge. Both Overton and Hillsboro swept their opponents in straight sets, 3-0.

Hillsboro and Overton then squared off with Hillsboro prevailing 3-0 (25-17,25-18,25-23) to advance to the final match.

District 11-AAA Champions Hillsboro Lady Burros

Dickson County came out strong in the first set, getting out to a 6-0 early lead. The Lady Burros came back to make the 1st set competitive, but they had dug themselves too deep a hole, and Dickson Co, took the 1st set 25-17. The 2nd set was close throughout with Hillsboro winning 25-18. The 3rd set went to Dickson County 25-21, putting them on the brink of the championship. But Hillsboro dominated the play in the 4th set, led by the regular season and tournament MVP, Alia Logoleo with kill after kill. So a 5th set was needed to determine the district champion. The set was nip and tuck the whole way with Hillsboro finishing it off with a 15-13 win.

The District 12-AAA Tourney begins on Wednesday at Centennial with defending state champion Brentwood as the top seed and Page High School as the #2 seed.

The Region 6 Tourney dates and location are yet to be determined, but most likely at Brentwood on October 10th.

The District 10-AA Tourney is finishing today, Tuesday at Maplewood.
