Vandy WBB Beats Lipscomb 72-71 in OT Thriller, Photos

The Vanderbilt and Lipscomb women’s basketball teams played a game for the ages with Vanderbilt eventually prevailing 72-71 in overtime at Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
Vanderbilt got 31 points from graduate guard Ciaja Harbison and double-doubles from Yaubryon Chambers (14 pts, 12 rebs) and Sacha Washington (10 pts, 12 rebs). Aleah Sorrentino led Lipscomb with 21 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out in overtime. Bella Vinson added 17 points, and Jalyn Holcomb netted 12 points for the Bisons.
Vanderbilt led 14-9 after the first quarter, but Lipscomb took the lead 17-16 with 5:53 left in the second quarter. Vanderbilt then went on a 17-3 run to lead 33-19 at the half.
Vanderbilt led 48-37 after the third and led 54-45 with 6:39 left in the game, but Lipscomb did not wilt, cutting into the lead bit by bit, before taking a 59-57 lead with just 32 seconds left with a big three-pointer from Bella Vinson. Vanderbilt quickly tied the game at 59-59 with a short jumper from Harbison with 28 seconds left. Neither team would score again to force overtime.
Overtime was tight throughout with Lipscomb taking a 71-70 lead with 12 seconds left after a layup by Vinson, but Vanderbilt called on Harbison again, and she responded with a drive to the basket resulting in two foul shots. She calmly hit both for the 72-71 lead. Lipscomb got off one more try, but Jalyn Holcomb’s last-second shot came up short for the Bisons.
With the win, Vanderbilt improves to 8-5 overall for the season. They will next host Alabama A&m on Wednesday. Lipscomb falls to 5-6 overall, and they will next play tomorrow at Allen Arena as they host Tennessee Wesleyan.
